Japan may arrange G7 finance meeting next week

According to Japan’s Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki on Friday, the country is considering hosting a meeting of the Group of Seven (G7) financial leaders the following week in conjunction with the annual meeting of the IMF in Morocco.

Japan G7 finance meeting: Suzuki said at a regular news conference, “If the meeting happens, we will use it to discuss the G7’s support for Ukraine and the ‘challenges multilateral development banks face.'”

The G7 advanced economies are under pressure to increase their assistance to emerging economies in order to address global concerns like pandemics and climate change because they are significant donors to multilateral development institutions like the World Bank.

Some emerging nations, like China, are also calling for a louder role in multilateral institutions as a result of their growing influence in the global economy.
