The army chief declared on Friday that the government’s campaign against smugglers and pilferers, which began last month, will continue with “full force.”
Action against illegal activities will continue: In a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir was quoted as saying, “LEAs and other Government departments will continue the enforcement actions against spectrum of illegal activities with full force to deny pilferage of resources and economic losses that the country suffers from these activities.”
According to the military’s media wing, COAS Munir was speaking at the meeting of the Sindh apex committee. He arrived in Karachi on Friday to take part in the meeting where the removal of illegal immigrants was the main item of business. Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, the caretaker chief minister of Sindh, served as the meeting’s chairman.
To boost the economy, the temporary administration started prosecuting hoarders, electricity thieves, smugglers, and hoarders last month. “After demonstrations protesting outrageous bills and the depreciation of the rupee in the money market, they implemented the action.”
At the meeting of the apex committee, representatives gave the COAS an update on the revised National Action Plan, operations in Sindh’s riverine regions, locally known as Kacha, security measures for foreign workers on non-CPEC and private projects, the repatriation of illegal aliens, measures to regularise foreign exchange, the Karachi transformation plan, the Special Investment Facilitation Council’s initiatives in Sindh, and Green Sindh initiatives.
The army chief emphasised the necessity of collaboration across all pertinent departments for the successful outcomes of the historic endeavours. According to the statement, “the participants affirmed that state institutions, government agencies, and the populace unite for the progress and prosperity of the province.”
“Pakistan’s Deadline for Illegal Immigrants and Diplomatic Developments”
The commander of Karachi Corps welcomed the COAS earlier after his arrival.
The deadline for illegal immigrants to depart Pakistan is November 1st. Also included by the ruling would be 1.73 million undocumented Afghan refugees.
However, the Taliban rulers in Afghanistan have deemed such a directive “unacceptable”. At least 16 vehicles carrying 30 Afghan families arrived at the Torkham border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khyber province on Thursday.
According to sources, the briefing will cover the National Action Plan, the operation in riverine areas, the security situation, and the crackdown on illicit smugglers. Officials stated that they would present a report on the expulsion of Afghan refugees living illegally in Pakistan and their alleged complicity in the crime.
The order has been justified by the interim foreign minister, who claimed that no other nation permitted illegal immigration and that the action was consistent with accepted global standards.
