Iran calls for emergency OIC meeting as Israel battles Hamas

Must Read

A spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated on Monday that Iran has requested an urgent meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as violence between Hamas and Israeli forces rages following a weekend attack on Israel.

Iran calls emergency OIC meeting: According to spokesman Nasser Kanaani, Tehran has requested an urgent meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to examine current events in the region.

Iran claimed it was not a part of the attacks in which the Hamas organisation killed 700 Israelis and kidnapped hundreds more.

Additionally, more than 400 Palestinians perished.

No proof that Iran was behind the most recent strikes on Israel, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, despite the fact that Tehran and Hamas have had close links for a long time.

Kanaani stated, “Anyone who threatens the Islamic Republic of Iran should know that we will respond with a devastating counteraction to any foolish act.”

The support Iran provides to Palestinian organisations is a part of a larger network of militias and armed groups it backs throughout the Middle East, providing Tehran a significant presence in Gaza as well as Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.

The largest attack on Israel in decades by Hamas comes at the same time as US-backed efforts to pressure Saudi Arabia to normalise relations with Israel in exchange for a defence agreement between Washington and Riyadh.

A move like that would put a stop to Saudi Arabia’s recent warming up to Iran.
