Cipher case: Shah Mahmood Qureshi files petition against jail trial

A former foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court to halt the trial of his Cypher case while he was imprisone.

Qureshi files petition against jail trial: The PTI leader has sought with the high court to nullify the order issued by the trial court on October 9.

Qureshi has also urged with the court to grant the trial court a restraining order against his indictment in the case.

In his appeal, Qureshi stated, “They were conducting my trial in jail without any official order.” He begged the high court to give the court the order to halt case procedures in the jail and hold an open trial.

Shah Mahmood also requested that the matter be heard promptly today.

On behalf of the PTI leader, Faiza Asad and attorney Taimoor Malik submitted a plea in the IHC.

On Monday, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a former foreign minister, made an urgent request for the matter to be hear today.

The special court established under the Official Secrets Act will charge Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a former foreign minister and PTI leader, on October 17 in a cypher case.

The FIA filed a challan in the cypher case against Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the vice chairman and chairman of the PTI, last month.

Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain heard the case in Adiala Jail under the Official Secrets Act 2023. The lawyers representing the former foreign minister and prime minister received copies of the challan in the case during a recent hearing.
