Turkiye in touch with Hamas over hostages it holds in Gaza: FM

Turkiye’s top diplomat stated on Tuesday said that his nation had spoken with Hamas regarding the 200 Israeli and foreign prisoners it is keeping in Gaza.

As a result, we began talking about these concerns, particularly with the political arm of Hamas, said Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Habib, at a news conference in Beirut.

A day after speaking on the phone with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh about the potential for hostage releases, Fidan made his remarks.

“On October 7, during an unprecedented onslaught on Israel, Hamas shot, stabbed, or burned to death more than 1,400 people, most of them civilians. They also took scores more people hostage.”

He will attend the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s foreign ministers’ conference on Wednesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
