In honour of Iqbal Day, the federal government has proclaimed Thursday, November 9, to be a public holiday.

Everywhere in the nation, November 9 is commemorated as “Iqbal Day” in honour of Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal. It would be his 146th anniversary of birth this year.
Dr. Iqbal’s influence played a significant role in motivating millions of Muslims throughout the subcontinent to seek an independent nation where they could freely practice Islam.
Mosques would offer special prayers before daybreak in support of Pakistan’s development and prosperity.
They refer to Dr. Iqbal as the “Poet of the East” in Pakistan and other countries. He was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877.
Iqbal was a well-known philosopher and poet. He is famous for penning poetry and utilising his political clout to push for the establishment of a Muslim nation-state.
His speech at Allahabad in 1930 marked a turning point in pre-partition politics.
In order for the Muslims of the subcontinent to establish Pakistan, Allama Iqbal’s speech provided them with a distinct identity and clear direction.
