Fawad Chaudhry, a former minister of information filed a petition on Saturday asking for an extension of his physical. An Islamabad court on Saturday deferred, Fawad physical remand decision.
The verdict will soon be made public by the court.
The police-filed petition also demanded that the magistrate’s decision from yesterday to place the former minister on judicial remand be revoked.
Fawad was detained earlier this week during a raid on his Lahore house. According to the police investigation, he was charged with making televised comments on Tuesday. Those comments that “harassed and intimidated” members of the electoral commission and their families.
He was being held under sedition laws because, according to the allegations brought in Islamabad, he “tried to cause an obstruction in the state’s electoral process.”
Fawad was apprehended and taken to Lahore’s Cantt, where a judge granted police a transit remand to Islamabad.
Later, however, the LHC gave the police instructions to bring the politician to Lahore. Plea for Fawad’s release was dismissed by Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh on the grounds that his arrest was not “illegal”.
The comments were made following the LEAs’ submission to LHC of the FIR for the arrest.
Inspector General (IG) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar informed the high court that Fawad was in the custody of the Islamabad Police at the time.
The LHC had earlier asked the law enforcement agencies to submit Fawad and postponed the case hearing. IG Punjab and IG Islamabad were also summoned.
Fawad was given a 14-day judicial remand on Friday by an Islamabad district and sessions court,
