KARACHI: According to Friday’s report, Sheikh Rashid, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), has yet another FIR against him at a Karachi police station for his contentious remarks on Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto.
An ally of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, the former interior minister was detained early on Thursday (February 2) from the Murree Motorway. Imran Khan, the former premier, criticised the detention.
He is currently being held by police on a two-day physical remand following accusations that he plotted to kill PPP co-chair Asif Ali Zardari. He was accused of intimidating police officers in a case by Islamabad Police.
“Khuda Baksh, a member of the PPP, filed an FIR at the Mochko Police Station in the port city. He is a member of the Pakistan Peoples Party.”
According to the sources, a Karachi police team consisting of the station house office (SHO) and deputy superintendent of police travelled to Islamabad in order to detain Rashid. They further mentioned that the AML director would be moved to Karachi today.
The Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), Sections 500 (Punishment for Defamation), 506 (Punishment for Criminal Intimidation), 504 (Intentional Insult with Intent to Provoke Breach of the Peace), and 153-A are all referenced in the FIR filed against Rashid (promoting enmity between different groups).
The FIR.
“The AML leader used abusive language against the PPP chairman during a media interview at the Polyclinic Hospital. This sparked outrage among thousands of PPP employees.”
“Many people took to the streets, and the FIR reports efforts by the speaker and other members to stop them. These members include Pir Buksh, son of Ali Murad, and Muhammad Bux, son of Mola Buksh.”
The AML leader allegedly planned to disturb the quiet, tried to incite violence and bloodshed, and tried to promote disruption.
It stated, “Legal action ought to be done against him (Sheikh Rashid).”
This is Rashid’s third legal battle, according to records. “The former interior minister was charged a second time today for interfering in official business at police station in Murree. The charge was brought earlier today.”
