The DC Comics superhero movie, ‘The Flash,’ featuring Ezra Miller in the titular role, faced a relatively lukewarm reception at the box office during its opening weekend. Despite high anticipation and fan excitement, the film’s speed couldn’t mirror its box office earnings.
Over three days, ‘The Flash’ gathered $55.1 million, which fell significantly short of industry expectations. As the long holiday weekend looms, the film will hit around $64 million from screenings across 4,234 cinemas.
Unfortunately, this superhero flick could not meet its initial box-office projections. Prior estimates suggested a substantial opening revenue ranging between $70 million and $75 million from its first three-day theatre run. The shortfall indicates the speedster superhero couldn’t quite race to the desired box office figures.
Warner Bros. Continues Investment in The Flash
Despite the subdued box office performance, Warner Bros. continues to express its faith in the ‘Flash’ franchise. There is a substantial amount of momentum behind the sequel to the initial movie, with the script completed even before the first film’s release.
David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the screenwriter known for his work on ‘Aquaman,’ has successfully finished the script for the second installment of the DC hero saga. This news, as reported by Variety, signals Warner Bros.’s intention to forge ahead with the Flash’s storyline, irrespective of the current film’s box office performance.
However, this does not confirm that the second installment is ready to hit the floors. It is yet to receive an official green signal to commence production.
Ezra Miller to Continue as The Flash
In a reassuring announcement for ‘Flash’ fans, the movie’s director, Andy Muschietti, he was confirmed that Ezra Miller would continue to don the superhero’s suit in the sequel. He praised Miller’s character portrayal, highlighting his unique take and exceptional performance.
Muschietti stated that he couldn’t envision anyone else portraying the character as brilliantly as Miller has. Though there have been other portrayals of ‘The Flash,’ Miller’s interpretation seemed tailored to his vision of the character. While the director noted that the sequel’s development hinges on certain circumstances, he confirmed Miller’s involvement if the project comes to fruition.
