To reduce instances of mobile theft in the city, Peshawar police released a smartphone application.
The android-compatible app will essentially function as a system for IMEI number verification. While purchasing a smartphone, users will be able to look up and search for a number, and the software will determine whether the device is being sold lawfully or whether it is a stolen one.
Every single mobile device that has been reported stolen in the city’s 34 police stations will have its IMEI number included in the app.
When a stolen phone’s IMEI is placed into the app, it will notify the police of the phone’s presence. This information is according to CCPO Peshawar police Aijaz Khan. The app will also alert buyers to the theft. For the software to function properly, police officials have requested that cell vendors put it on their phones.
A rise in crime in the provincial capital, including instances of smartphone theft, preceded the app’s release. The surge in mobile theft has been linked to higher pricing for mobile phones. This is due to a higher exchange rate, greater taxes, and a deterioration in the enforcement of law and order. The higher cost of mobile phones has made them more attractive to thieves.
