Zia Mohyeddin, a renowned actor who was known as a legend in his time, passes away in Karachi at the age of 91.
Earlier, NAPA sources claimed that Mohyeddin had been checked into a hospital’s intensive care unit.
Mohyeddin once initiated the National Academy of Performing Arts (Napa) in Karachi, which he later became the leadership of.
The late British-Pakistani was well-known for his exceptigeonal compering, broadcasting, poetry and prose recitation, acting, and theatre director. He taught hundreds of students who are now employed in various TV production and acting industries.
Mohyeddin, who was born in Faisalabad on June 20, 1931, received his degree from Government College in Lahore. When he returned to Pakistan after finishing his studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, he produced, directed, and participated in many plays.
He had a remarkable role in the David Lean film Lawrence of Arabia in 1962, then in Fred Zinnemann’s Behold the Pale Horse in 1964, and last in Jamil Dehlavi’s Immaculate Conception in 1992.
Despite a strong plot and soundtrack, the late actor’s 1970 starring debut in Lollywood’s Mujrim Kaun did not prove to be a commercial success. This is even though he was best recognized for his considerable work in British television.
He traveled to Pakistan in 1970 and hosted PTV’s now-famous Zia Mohyeddin Show. The Director position at the PIA Arts Academy was later accepted by him.
The National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) was founded in Karachi by Zia Mohyeddin in 2005.
He received the Hilal-i-Imtiaz Award for Art (Acting/Comparing) in 2012.

The late actor’s funeral prayers will be recited on Monday, February 13, 2023, following Zuhr at Imam Bargah Yasrab.
The interim chief minister of Punjab, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and his family expressed their sorrow at Zia sahib’s departure. He expressed his sincere condolences to the sad family and described Zia Mohyeddin as a multifaceted artist.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, the federal minister of information and broadcasting, also offered the late actor’s family her sincere sympathies.
