Admiral Naveed Ashraf assumed command as the 23rd naval chief on Saturday after Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi announced his retirement.

Naveed Ashraf takes charge as naval chief: The departing navy commander handed over control of the Pakistan Navy to the new commander during a ceremony today at Pakistan navy Headquarters in Islamabad.

The departing head praised Admiral Naveed Ashraf for taking over in his goodbye speech. The admiral, according to him, has had a distinguished career filled with illustrious accomplishments. Admiral Naveed Ashraf would prove to be a capable and deserving successor who would take the Navy to new heights, he was sure.

According to Amjad Khan Niazi, the Pakistan Navy is a powerful and essential component of the military forces of the nation, capable of defending our maritime borders.

As Vice President of the National Defence University, Commander Pakistan Fleet, Naval Secretary, and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff at Naval Headquarters, Ashraf has had a successful career.

In 1989, he received a commission in the Pakistan Navy’s Operations Branch. He held a number of prestigious positions in the Navy, including Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy and Commander of the 18 and 25 Destroyer Squadrons of the PN Fleet. He also served as Commanding Officer of the PNS ALAMGIR, PNS SHAHJAHAN, PNS TIPPU SULTAN, PNS MUJAHID, and PNS LARKANA.

Additionally, The staff appointments include Chief Staff Officer to Commander Combined Task Force-151 HQ NAVCENT Bahrain, Chief Staff Officer to Commander Fleet Operations Officer at HQ Commander Pakistan Fleet, Captain Training at HQ Flag Officer Sea Training, Deputy President National Defence University at Islamabad, Principal Secretary to Chief of Staff Officer, Director Maritime Affairs and Environmental Control, Director General C4I, Naval Secretary, and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Admin) at Naval Headq

Further, Graduates of the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, the National Defence University in Islamabad, the US Naval Staff College, and the UK’s Royal College of Defence Studies include Naveed Ashraf.

However, The Flag Officer has received the Tamgha-e-Basalat and Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) awards in appreciation of his excellent services.
