Afghan Refugees Not Involved in Pakistan’s Security Problems

In Islamabad. A spokesman for the Taliban government in Kabul said on Wednesday that Pakistan’s threat to forcibly remove illegal Afghan immigrants is “unacceptable” and that Afghans are not to blame for Pakistan’s security issues.

Afghan Refugees: On Tuesday, Pakistan’s caretaker administration issued an ultimatum, setting a deadline of November 1 for the approximately 1.73 million Afghan immigrants suspected of residing in the country illegally to depart, or face the possibility of forced expulsion.

The spokesman for the Taliban government in Kabul, Zabihullah Mujahid, wrote on the social networking website X, formerly known as Twitter, “The behaviour of Pakistan towards Afghan refugees is unacceptable.”

Sarfraz Bugti, Pakistan’s interior minister, claimed that Afghan nationals were responsible for 14 of the 24 suicide bombs that took place in Pakistan this year in order to assist explain the crackdown.

That assertion was refuted by the Taliban spokesman.

“The Pakistani side needs to rethink its strategy. Pakistan’s security issues are unrelated to Afghan refugees. Pakistan ought to accept them as long as they depart voluntarily, said Mujahid.

After civil and military leaders convened to discuss the law and order situation following two suicide attacks on Friday that claimed at least 57 lives, Pakistan issued an ultimatum to most of the immigrants who had been residing in the country for years. According to Bugti, one of the suicide bombers was an Afghan citizen. He also claimed that the Indian intelligence service was complicit.

As a result of border fighting that briefly shut off the primary commercial route between the countries last month, relations between the Taliban and the Pakistani government have significantly deteriorated.

Islamabad claims that the Taliban train fighters on Afghan soil and organise operations inside Pakistan. The Taliban refutes these charges and asserts that Pakistan’s security issues are internal matters.

The military has been able to exercise more power as a result of the unpredictability and instability in the nation. The President appointed a caretaker government in August to oversee Pakistan through the upcoming elections, expected to occur in the following months.
