The UN humanitarian agency calculated that it would take $1.2 billion to cover everyone’s requirements in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Aid needs in Gaza: Jens Laerke, the spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), projected that addressing the needs of 2.7 million people, including 500,000 in the occupied West Bank and the entire population of Gaza, will require $1.2 billion.
Up to the end of the year, that amount takes care of the humanitarian requirements in Gaza and a portion of the occupied West Bank.
OCHA had first requested $294 million to serve around 1.3 million people on October 12.
Since then, Laerke continued, “the situation has grown increasingly desperate.” OCHA will amend the funding appeal to highlight the critical needs for food, water, healthcare, shelter, cleanliness, and other necessities, according to the organization.
Laerke urged donors to provide resources for the reaction as soon as possible.
“Adequate money, safe and continuous access to all those in need, wherever they are, a sufficient supply of humanitarian goods, and—most importantly—fuel” are all necessary for us to lessen the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Aid agencies claim that the amount of aid going to Gaza has not even come close to meeting the needs of the people living there since Israel started bombing the heavily populated enclave following Hamas attacks in southern Israel on October 7.
