Perviaz Elahi, a former chief minister of Punjab, was granted bail on Friday by an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad.

Pervaiz Elahi was granted bail by ATC Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain, who also required him to provide a 20,000 rupee surety bond.

Pervaiz Elahi had been detained, the prosecutor informed the judge, as a result of information from a “informant.” Further, The sections that were added to the FIR, he said, did not permit the granting of bail.

As soon as the prosecutor had finished speaking, Judge Zulqurnain began reading the verdict aloud in front of the court.

Elahi was not even listed in the FIR for the case in which he had been arrested, the judge ruled. He added that despite Elahi being held for three days on remand, nothing had emerged of the probe.

Elahi was then granted bail in exchange for surety bonds, per his subsequent decision.
