An Australian regulator has imposed a punishment of A$610,500 ($386,000) on Elon Musk’s social networking platform, X, for refusing to comply with an investigation into anti-child abuse practices. This is a setback for a business that has had trouble retaining advertisers due to claims that it is becoming lax in content moderation.

Australia fines X platform: The e-Safety Commission punished Musk’s platform X, which he rebranded from Twitter, for not responding to inquiries about how quickly it addressed accusations of child abuse material on the site and how it found it.

“The fine is damaging to the company’s reputation because it has halted most content control and permitted the reactivation of thousands of banned accounts, prompting advertisers to reduce their investments.” This is despite it being little in comparison to the $44 billion Musk paid for the website in October 2022.”
