Bangladesh defeat Pakistan to win Bronze medal in Asian Games

Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the Men’s Cricket competition for the Asian Games 2023 in this city at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field.

When play was halted due to rain, Pakistan managed to score 48 for one in five overs. Mirza Baig led his team in scoring with 32 off 18 balls, returning unbeaten. His innings contained four fours and two sixes.

As Pakistan concluded their innings, Bangladesh received a revised target of 65 runs to win within five overs.

Bangladesh had a strong start in the run-chase and was on track to easily reach the mark, requiring 25 runs from two overs.

Bangladesh needed 20 runs in the final over, however Arshad Iqbal, Pakistan’s most effective bowler, only allowed five runs in the previous over after dismissing Afif Hossain (20, 11b, 3x4s, 16).

Left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem dismissed the leading run-scorer for Bangladesh, Yasir Ali, on the next ball, despite having conceded 16 runs in the first four deliveries of the last over.

Rakibul Hasan scored a boundary on the final ball to assist his team win the bronze medal with the final four runs needed.

Further, Arshad was Pakistan’s most effective bowler, taking three wickets for 14 runs in just two overs.

Prior to that, on Friday’s second semi-final of the Men’s Cricket competition for the 2023 Asian Games, Afghanistan defeated Pakistan by four wickets.
