Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the foreign minister and chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has referred to July 5, 1977, as a dark day in the country’s history.

Bilawal terms July 5 as Black Day: He claimed that this day would serve as a constant reminder of how a ruthless tyrant subjugated the entire country to extremism, terrorism, Kalashnikov and drug culture under the pretext of religion, which we were still unable to eradicate after 46 years.

Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was Pakistan’s first elected prime minister and its most enduring leader till General Zia-ul-Haq illegally toppled his administration on July 5, 1977, seizing control and depriving the populace of their fundamental freedoms. Since then, Pakistanis everywhere celebrate July 5 as Black Day.

The chairman of the PPP further stated in his message that dictator Zia is responsible for the Pakistani nation and its constitution, according to a statement made by Media Cell Bilawal House.

He stated that humanity will forever feel ashamed of the abuse of civil and human rights under General Zia’s dictatorship, along with the atrocities committed against those who advocated for the restoration of democracy.

“The Era of Puppets and Dictators is Irrelevant”: Bilawal Vows to Uphold Democracy and Fight for Constitutional Unanimity

According to Bilawal, the country is aware that a small group of individuals who adhere to dictator Zia’s philosophy are still engaged in plotting against the right of the people to rule out of a desire for power, but failure is their lot in life. “The period of puppets and dictators is no longer relevant. There is currently just democracy in Pakistan’s present and future, he continued.

The PPP Chairman praised the Jiyalas (party members) who, during the Zia government, endured torture, sufferings in prison, and embraced martyrdom in the name of democracy.

The Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto also vowed that his party would continue to fight for the unanimity of the 1973 Constitution, the parliamentary system of democracy, and the establishment of a society based on equality, just as Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had been active and made unmatched sacrifices throughout her life for this cause.
