Brazilian Model Lygia Fazio Passes Away Following Cosmetic Surgery Complications

Prominent Brazilian model and influencer Lygia Fazio has tragically passed away at 40 due to complications during a cosmetic surgery procedure.

Fazio suffered a stroke while undergoing an operation to have industrial silicone and polymethylmethacrylate, known as PMMA, injected into her buttocks. Her family shared the heartbreaking news through Fazio’s Instagram profile.

The family wrote in a sorrowful Instagram post, “Our warrior has unfortunately transitioned to the other side. We’ll soon provide information about her final farewell. We extend our gratitude for all the support and request understanding for our inability to respond to all messages. Please respect our grief.”

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) was the substance that led to Fazio’s complications. PMMA, a material that professionals should administer cautiously in minimal doses, is prohibited for use in the buttocks and breasts due to its potential lethality. In addition, missteps during the procedure can cause the PMMA microspheres to disperse into the fat and cling to tissues.

The harmful substances permeated Fazio’s body, inciting several infections, ultimately leading to her death.

Fazio was a known patron of aesthetic surgeries, with her latest operation targeting her buttocks. However, the significant concern surrounding her procedures is that they were conducted in an unrecognized, clandestine clinic.

Fazio’s death followed a three-week hospitalization, but this wasn’t her first brush with such a crisis. In 2022, Fazio spent 100 days in the hospital to have fillers removed from various parts of her body.
