Justice Retired Maqbool Baqar, the interim chief minister of Sindh, took the oath of office during a ceremony conducted at the governor’s residence.

Maqbool Baqar takes oath: Today’s swearing-in event took place at the Governor’s House, and Murad Ali Shah, the outgoing chief minister, was also present.

Governor of Sindh Kamran Tessori administered the oath of office to Justice Retd Maqbool Baqar, who assumed the role of interim chief minister of Sindh.

“At the Governor’s House, the departing chief minister, Murad Ali Shah, received a guard of honor.”

Earlier, Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, and Ansar Rana, the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, reached agreement on Maqbool Baqar as the interim CM.

Governor Kamran Tessori agreed to appoint Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar as interim Chief Minister in accordance with Article 224 (1A) of the Constitution on the recommendation of CM Murad.

On the recommendation of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Governor Kamran Tessori dissolved the Sindh Assembly on Friday (August 11).

Who is Justice Maqbool Baqar, retired?

Justice Maqbool Baqar is a former justice of Pakistan’s Supreme Court. He was born in Karachi, Pakistan, on April 5, 1957. In 1979, he graduated with an LLB from the University of Karachi.

In 1981, Justice Baqar began practising law as an advocate before the Sindh High Court. On August 26, 2002, he was named Additional Judge for the High Court. From 2002 to 2015, he presided as a judge of the Sindh High Court.


He assumed his position in the Pakistan Supreme Court on February 17, 2015.

In the case of Asif Zardari v. National Accountability Bureau, Justice Baqar wrote a significant judgement that found the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had overstepped its bounds in its probe of the former president.

However, “In the case of Justice Qazi Faez Isa v. Federation of Pakistan, where they established that the president’s reference against Justice Isa had political motivations, Justice Baqar also authored the dissenting note.”
