In reaction to allegations that Beijing was preparing to establish a spy facility on the island of American beaches, China warned the United States on Friday against “interfering in Cuba’s internal affairs.”
China slams US over spy base’ in Cuba: The White House referred to the media allegations as false, and Cuba’s deputy foreign minister termed them “mendacious and unfounded.” They were based on comments made by unnamed US officials to The Wall Street Journal and CNN.
At a routine news conference, when asked about the alleged eavesdropping base, Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, stated he was “unaware of the situation” before criticizing US policy towards Cuba.
As everyone is aware, the United States frequently uses slander and rumor-mongering as a strategy, and its trademark is willfully meddling in the internal affairs of other nations, according to Wang.
The US should examine its behavior, stop meddling in Cuba’s internal affairs in the name of freedom and democracy, and promptly lift the island’s economic, commercial, and financial embargo.
According to the sources, the Chinese spy base would be able to listen in on communications throughout significant portions of the Southeast United States.
The changes occur as Chinese President Xi Jinping pushes for a swift increase in China’s security presence abroad.
Cuban Station Poses Immediate Threat to Continental US; Soviet Union’s Operations and US Response
A station in Cuba, which is 90 miles (150 km) off the southern point of Florida, would pose the most immediate threat to the continental United States.
To spy on the United States electronically, the Soviet Union set up operations in communist Cuba.
However, in 1962, when Moscow tried to establish a nuclear missile base in Cuba, the United States imposed a quarantine on the island, threatening to start a war between the two superpowers unless Moscow relented.
Washington later evacuated the nuclear-capable missiles in Turkey as the Soviets perceived them as a threat.
China traversed the US earlier this year with what the US described as a high-altitude surveillance balloon. Before being shot down by a US fighter plane, it hovered over important military locations from west to east.
