The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday that President Xi Jinping will go to South Africa from August 21–24 and attend the BRICS leaders’ summit.

China’s Xi to attend BRICS leaders’ meeting: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the five BRICS nations, meet in Johannesburg next week starting on August 22 to discuss how to transform a loose group of countries accounting for a quarter of the world economy into a geopolitical force that can challenge the West’s hegemony in international affairs.

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, will participate via video chat instead of attending in person due to international allegations of war crimes in Ukraine.

Around 40 nations, according to South Africa, have shown interest in joining, either formally or informally, thus making expansion an anticipated top priority.

Saudi Arabia, Argentina, and Egypt are among them.

China, which is battling the United States for geopolitical dominance, has stated that it “welcomes more like-minded partners to join the ‘BRICS family’ at an early date.”

Brazil opposes it because they believe it will lessen the status of the already imposing club, but Russia also favours it. India is undecide.

However, Along with being present at the BRICS summit, Xi and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa will co-chair the China-Africa Leaders’ Dialogue, according to the Chinese foreign ministry.
