Chinese engineers have stopped KP hydropower development in Swat and Shangla since July 2022 due to deteriorating peace and order.
In May 2022, a group of Chinese specialists halted construction on the 11.8 MW Karora hydropower facility in the Shangla region. The delay and security danger could cause significant losses for the province.
“Energy and Power Secretary Nisar Ahmad Khan presided over the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Commissioner Swat Junaid Khan, Special Secretary Energy Tashfeen Haider, PEDO CEO Naeem Khan, DPO Shangla Aqeeq Hussain, SDPO Swat Akbar Hayat, CPO Ayaz Khan, and other senior officers.”
Officials instructed security organizations to create thorough security plans in the official handout. “The handout stated that someone would establish an integrated strategy for hydroelectric projects worth billions of rupees.”
Naeem informed the attendees of the meeting that Chinese engineers on the 84-megawatt Mitiltan hydropower project in Swat stopped their work in July 2022. They moved to Islamabad due to the security situation.
Participants at the meeting talked about enhancing security. Foreign engineers will consequently have bulletproof cars and foolproof security.
The energy secretary recommended that the provincial government implement a well-thought-out security program. This program would involve frequent communication with the pertinent district administration, police, and other authorities.
