On the directives of Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi rejects the governor’s order in a vote of confidence and has referred to his letter requesting the trust vote as “illegal.”
“I disagree with the governor’s letter requesting a vote of confidence. I would be receiving the letter if I accept the vote of confidence “At a press conference in Lahore, the chief minister remarked.
The action is expected to worsen the political unrest in Punjab, which was put an end to after the Lahore High Court (LHC) restored Elahi as the chief minister after the governor had de-notified him.
On December 23, the court ordered Elahi back in custody and postponed the hearing until January 11. According to the court, Elahi was still allowed to cast a vote of confidence, even though the court’s injunction prevented the CM from dismissing the assembly.
As a result, Elahi’s ally Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) got to work and stated that the chief minister will take the trust vote before January 11 — the hearing date.
However, issues have emerged for the CM. Independent lawmaker Syeda Zahra Naqvi claimed that she was a PTI ally rather than Elahi, according to The News. There are reportedly three PTI members who are planning to rebel against the party’s decision to support the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader. The context of this information is not clear.
Inquiry
According to CM Elahi, the authorities are still looking into the alleged shooter’s confession statement. The shooter is suspected of attempting to kill PTI Chairman Imran Khan in Wazirabad during the long march in November. The context of this information is not clear. The long march took place in November.
The chief minister highlighted how the center was making it difficult for Punjab to investigate the events surrounding the attempted assassination. “However, the IG isn’t present here as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sent him to America,” the chief minister said.
Khan was leading a protest march to Islamabad. The purpose of the march was to pressure the government into calling for an early election. While he was waving to supporters from a truck-mounted container, he was shot in the leg. The protest march was stopped in Rawalpindi.
Fawad Chaudhry, senior vice president of the PTI, has made a fresh allegation. The allegation concerns the assassination’s circumstances. Chaudhry claims that three assailants attempted to assassinate Khan. They struck him from three separate angles.
The interior minister, Rana Sanaullah, disagreed, stating that only one person was involved in the bid.
