On a formal visit to Turkey, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday and stressed the importance of strengthening military and diplomatic cooperation.

COAS Munir meets President Erdogan: The COAS visit is a part of high-level reciprocal visits by both the fraternal countries to strengthen their long-standing diplomatic and military ties, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The army chief met with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of the Republic of Turkey, as well as the country’s foreign and defence ministers, the commander of the general staff, and the heads of its land and air forces.

It was state that during the sessions, the COAS placed particular focus on strengthening defense coordination and training cooperation. He lauded the Turkish armed services’ high levels of operational readiness as well as their efforts to uphold peace and stability in the area.

The ISPR reported that following the terrible earthquake that struck Turkiye in February, NDMA teams and Pakistan Army engineers collaborated to help out. The Turkish officials appreciated their efforts, which were acknowledged.

General Munir also paid respects to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk by visiting his tomb in Ankara and leaving a floral tribute in his honour.

Later, he visited the Turkish land troops’ command center, where they warmly greeted him and conducted a guard of honor.

The commander of the Turkish land forces and the minister of defence both awarded the army chief the Legion of Merit in appreciation of his efforts to advance defence ties between the two nations.

The COAS emphasised during the ceremony that Pakistan and Turkey have “strong brotherly relations” that have “always stood the test of time.”

According to General Munir, the Pakistani army is always ready to provide the Turkish land forces with unrestricted assistance in a variety of fields.

He continued, “Pakistan has always stood with its Turkish brothers in moments of tragedy and triumph and shall continue to enhance the fraternal relations between the two nations.
