Imran Khan, a former prime minister, was able to call his sons on Wednesday from behind bars thanks to a special court order.

Court allows Imran make call to sons: Wednesday’s session was presided over by Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain, who directed the Adiala Jail superintendent to call his sons.

“In court, defense attorney Sheraz Ahmad Ranjha stated that all convicts are allowed to call their families on the phone, with calls typically being permitted on Saturdays.”

The Adiala Jail superintendent had provided jail SOPs, according to which people detained under the Official Secrets Act were not permitted to make phone calls. The judge noted this.

“The attorney claimed that the Federal Shariat Court had ruled to permit international phone calls, even though it is not state in the jail manual.”

Ranjha provided the court with the Shariat Court decision he had cited when the judge decided to allow the phone call.

“Furthermore, the attorney requested a show-cause notice be issue to the jail superintendent at Attock jail for providing false information to the court.”

Imran Khan is presently incarcerated in Adiala Jail in connection with the cypher case filed under the Official Secrets Act. He faces charges of breaking the Official Secrets Act for allegedly disclosing the contents of a “classified” cypher communicated while he was prime minister.
