A district and sessions court in the nation’s capital accepted a plea challenging the “illegal” union of former prime minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
Court issues notice to PTI chief in marriage case: “On July 20, the Civil Judge Qudratullah summoned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and his wife to deliver the judgment, which had been reserved a day earlier.”
Last week, Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Islamabad Muhammad Azam Khan remanded the case to a civil judge and dismissed the decision of another civil court, which had ruled the petition contesting the validity of the marriage as inadmissible.
According to the petitioner Muhammad Hanif, Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband allegedly divorced her in November 2017 and Khan married her on January 1st, 2018, despite her iddat period still being in effect. Hanif claimed that this action was against Sharia and Muslim norms.
Imran’s close friend Awn Chaudhry, who was one of the wedding witnesses, and Mufti Muhammad Saeed, who officiated the marriage between Imran and Bushra, provided statements to the court on behalf of the complainant.
Despite knowing everything, the PTI leader married Bushra Bibi during her iddat (the period of seclusion that follows the death or divorce of her husband), according to Saeed, who performed the couple’s Nikah.
Saeed testified before a lower court that on January 1, 2018, he married Bushra Bibi and Khan under the promise of a woman claiming to be the former first lady’s sister.
Saeed testified in court that the former premier had called him again in February 2018 and asked him to perform his Nikah with Bushra Bibi once more because the first time was against Shariah.
He claimed that Bushra Bibi’s Iddat had not come to an end the first time the Nikah was solemnised.
“Controversial Prediction Leads to Unlawful Nikah: Khan’s Quoted Statement on Bushra Bibi’s Divorce and PTI Leadership”
“Khan quoted that Bushra Bibi had been divorced in November 2017 and there was a “prediction” that he, as the PTI chairman, would lead Pakistan if he married Bushra Bibi.”
“Mufti Saeed declared that the initial Nikah, which had been solemnized based on the “prediction,” was unlawful.”
Marriage
The respected faith healer Bushra Riaz Watoo, also known as Bushra Bibi, was confirmed as Khan’s wife by the PTI in February 2018. In Lahore, the event took place.
Khan’s sisters were not present, but the bride’s mother and friends attended the tiny wedding.
Saeed, a former PTI core committee member, married Zulfi Bukhari and former PTI politician Awn Chaudhary as witnesses.
Khan was married twice before he wed the spiritual guide.
His first union with Jemima Goldsmith, a British billionaire’s daughter, dissolved in 2004. He has two children from his first marriage, Suleman and Qasim. They are both housed with their mother.
His second marriage, which he entered into with Reham Khan in January 2015, ended after only 10 short months.
