The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench has issued an immediate order to release Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vice chairman.
Court orders release of Shah Mahmood Qureshi: After hearing the case, Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz of the high court ruled that Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s incarceration was “illegal.”
The court mandated Qureshi to submit an affidavit to the deputy commissioner of Rawalpindi within three days of his release.
During the hearing, the Rawalpindi Bench of the LHC ruled that they should not prolong the detention of Qureshi any further under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO).
On Monday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the Punjab caretaker administration to furnish information about every case filed against Qureshi by June 6.
Shortly after his release from Adiala Jail on May 23, authorities took Shah Mahmood, the PTI leader, back into custody. He had been allowed to leave Adiala Jail based on a court decision but was subsequently arrested.
It is important to note that after the rallies on May 9 in Islamabad, authorities detained former foreign minister Qureshi.
Riots broke out across Pakistan soon after the arrest of the former prime minister Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case, leading to the apprehension of Shah Mehmood from Gilgit Baltistan House in Islamabad.
