Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, recent events had an impact on how the Supreme Court operated.

Court ‘tested’ by constitutional issues: Justice Bandial stated that the court had been put to the test by getting involved in constitutional concerns at a full court reference to commemorate the start of the new judicial year. In this regard, he brought up the cases that were brought before the court in February of this year.

The top justice remarked, “I don’t want to repeat what happened, but the court’s performance was impacted.” He continued by saying that the decision in the audio leaks case had stated all of the occurrences.

All of the Supreme Court’s judges were present, with the exception of Justice Yahya Afridi, who was abroad. Also present was Chief Justice nominee Qazi Faez Isa.

A sizable number of lawyers and the attorney general were present at the reference.

The chief justice expressed his intention to reduce the number of open cases from 50,000 to 2,000. However, he acknowledged that this was the extent of what could be achieved.

He also said that the Supreme Court’s five-member bench was still in charge of overseeing the Dam Fund, which was still in operation.
