The Pakistan Meteorological Department released a forecast on Wednesday stating that the approaching tropical cyclone Biparjoy will cause rain with thunder and a heavy dust storm in Karachi this afternoon or evening.

Rain with thunder in Karachi: The current forecast indicates that the temperature, humidity, and partial cloud cover will not change. Currently, the port city’s winds are blowing at 25 kph, but they might reach 40 kph.

The forecast predicts that the peak temperature will reach 36 to 38 degrees Celsius while the humidity in Karachi’s atmosphere stands at 69%.

According to the most recent forecast, the cyclone in the Arabian Sea, which goes by the Bengali name Biparjoy, which means “disaster” in English, is classified as a very severe cyclonic storm (VSCS).

In the past six hours, it has virtually traveled northward. It is now located close to latitude 21.9°N and longitude 66.3°E, roughly 340 km south-southwest of Karachi, 355 km south-southwest of Thatta, and 275 km south-southwest of Keti Bandar.

It is anticipated that the storm will land as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) between Mandvi in India’s Gujarat and Karachi around Thursday evening.

The Met Office states that from June 14 to 17, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Tharparker, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, and Karachi can expect heavy rainfall due to the Biparjoy.

“The coastal region of Sindh may experience rain. The storm will land on June 15, and its impacts will last until June 17, according to Sardar Sarfaraz, chief meteorologist for Sindh, in an earlier interview.

The chief meteorologist predicted that Karachi’s weather will return to “normal after the cyclone passes,” and a sea breeze will blow through the city.
