Mohammad Amir, a former Pakistani pace phenom, has signed a contract with Derbyshire and will play for them during the first part of the 2024 season as an international player.
Derbyshire sign Amir for 2024 season: The left-arm pacer will be available for the entirety of the Vitality Blast group stage as well as the first half of the 2024 County Championship games.
Amir has significant county cricket experience, having played for Essex and Gloucestershire in the past. He also took part in the Hundred for London Spirit’s inaugural season.
Mickey Arthur, Derbyshire’s director of cricket, is also Pakistan’s director of cricket, which is a fascinating relationship between the two countries. Amir was a key component of Pakistan’s bowling attack from 2016 to 2019. During that time, Arthur served as the nation’s full-time head coach.
Muhammad is a well-known fast bowler who I am excited to introduce to Derbyshire, according to Arthur. For the first half of next season, he will direct our red ball and T20 attack, and I can’t wait to see what he will deliver.
“I am fully aware of his abilities; he has always played well in crunch time, and I have personal experience with that. The Derbyshire fans will like seeing Mohammad charge in, I know it.
“I’ve enjoyed my experiences playing county cricket in the past, and I’m looking forward to teaming up with Mickey, who I’ve had such great success with internationally,” Amir continued.
“I’ve always loved playing first-class cricket in England, and the County Championship is something very special. Further, I’ve discussed the quality of the squad with Mickey, and I want to put out the efforts necessary to assist Derbyshire compete in red-and-white ball cricket the next summer.
