Walt Disney Co announced the postponement of three forthcoming Avatar sequels and two Marvel films due to production delays, including the ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike. However, a new Star Wars movie is set to hit theatres in 2026.
Avatar’s producer, Jon Landau, indicated on Twitter that more time was needed to meet the high-quality expectations for the science-fiction series. As a result, the release dates for Avatar 3, 4, and 5 have been shifted to December 2025, December 2029, and December 2031, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Marvel films, Thunderbolts and Blade, have also been delayed. Blade, featuring Mahershala Ali, has been pushed back five months to February 2025, while Thunderbolts has been moved from July to December 2024.
In contrast, one Marvel film, a Deadpool sequel starring Ryan Reynolds, is set for an earlier release than initially planned, with a new date in May 2024.
