PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated on Wednesday that ‘one person’s return’ postponed the general elections in Pakistan.

Elections halted for one person’s return: The PPP Chairman made this remark while speaking to a crowd at a public event commemorating the 16th anniversary of the Karsaz disaster in Karachi. “The delay in general elections is not vote ki izzat (respect of vote), but vote ki beizzati (disrespect of vote),” he remarked.

According to Bilawal Bhutto, the coalition government’s 16-month term had shown that Pakistan could not be run from London. “Today, one person’s return halted the country’s Constitution, election, and democracy,” he declared.

The former foreign minister made the following statement without mentioning anyone specifically: “We hope that his return to the country would be big, and also that ECP [Election Commission of Pakistan] would soon announce the election schedule.”

He emphasised the urgent need for all political parties to support the demand that the electoral commission immediately announce the date of the polls, arguing that elections are the only way to put Pakistan back on the path to progress.

According to Bilawal Bhutto, if politicians continue to quarrel among themselves, the nation will not advance. He also stated that he wants to put an end to the politics of division and abuse.

“We must put abuse- and division-based politics behind us. We require fresh leadership that looks to the future rather than being mired in the past. Further, We don’t want Pakistan in the 1990s or in 2017. We want Pakistan as it is today,” he added.

The PPP leader also declared the beginning of his party’s mass contact campaign, which will call for the ECP to set a date for the elections. “Let the people exercise their right to vote; they will have to accept the demand of the people,” stated Bilawal.

He mentioned the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), claiming that Asif Ali Zardari, a previous president, lay the project’s basis.

“He received criticism for making monthly trips to China. The same individuals who had previously criticised them were now praising CPEC, he continued.

If his party won, Bilawal pledged, his party will launch a new economic corridor to generate employment. He emphasised both the need for investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure and the country’s vulnerability to climate change.

After four years of self-imposed exile, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif arrived in Saudi Arabia. From there, he will travel via Dubai to Pakistan on October 21.

The former prime minister travelled to Saudi Arabia for Umrah. He would then spend three days in Dubai before taking a chartered flight to Pakistan on October 21. The leader of the PML-N will speak to a crowd at the Minar-e-Pakistan and lay out his plans for the next elections.

On October 17, he will arrive in Dubai.

Additionally, the former prime minister has reserved his trip from Dubai to Islamabad. The “Umeed-e-Pakistan” jet will be bringing Nawaz to Pakistan. The special aeroplane will depart from Dubai and land in Islamabad before continuing on to Lahore.
