Elon Musk announced Friday that the highly anticipated cage match between himself and Mark Zuckerberg would take place in Italy, as Italian officials confirmed discussions about organising a “great charity event.”
Musk cage fight with Zuckerberg in Italy: Although a confrontation between the two internet giants hasn’t been verified, Musk stated on his X social media network, which was once known as Twitter, that plans were moving forward.
Musk wrote, “I spoke to the PM of Italy and Minister of Culture,” alluding to Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister. They have chosen an amazing spot.
Although he declared that the match “will not take place in Rome,” Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano admitted to having met with Musk to discuss “how to organize a significant charity event that recalls history.”
Musk posted about the proposal in late June and appears to be hoping that the fight will take place in the historic Colosseum, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Sangiuliano stated that any event involving Musk would generate “a substantial amount, many million euros,” which would be contributed to two significant Italian pediatric hospitals, as mentioned in her statement.
“It will also be an opportunity to promote our history and our archaeological, artistic, and cultural heritage on a global scale,” he added.
“Charitable Cage Match: Musk and Zuckerberg to Direct Event Earnings to Veterans and Italian Legacy”
The earnings, according to Musk, will “flow to veterans,” and “everything done will pay homage to the past and present of Italy.
He asserted that he and Mark Zuckerberg’s foundations would oversee the cage match, in contrast to UFC, the mixed martial arts promoter based in Las Vegas.
Dana White, the head of the UFC, said this week on Mike Tyson’s podcast that he thought the fight would bring in $1 billion in revenue while still looking to take part in the event.
The two internet titans, who had previously sparred from a distance, are now direct rivals thanks to Zuckerberg’s Meta’s July 1 launch of its platform called Threads, which is similar to Twitter.
Later on Friday, Musk shared a Latin saying that translates to “it is delightful to play the fool occasionally” as a slightly frivolous side note.
Musk didn’t specify the date for the proposed fight, but he did mention the possibility of requiring “minor surgery” to address an issue with his right shoulder blade rubbing against his ribs.
It will just take a few months for recovery, he noted.
The richest man in the world has a titanium plate holding two vertebrae together, but he claimed on Friday that it is now “not an issue.”
Zuckerberg, a jiujitsu competitor and martial arts enthusiast, opted not to respond right away.
