The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced their 15-player roster for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 in India on Sunday. Harry Brook was re-inducted into the team.
England announce squad for World Cup: “Harry Brook initially missed out on England’s World Cup preliminary squad due to Ben Stokes’ return but ultimately secured a place in the final roster for the reigning champions.”
Notably, Jason Roy’s absence from the four-match ODI series against New Zealand due to back spasms made Brook’s return possible.
Dawid Malan, the opening batsman, qualified for the World Cup as well after hitting the most runs (277) throughout the series against New Zealand.
Ben Stokes, meanwhile, cemented his place in the team following his outstanding return to ODI cricket in the just-completed series. In the third One-Day International against New Zealand, he hit 182 off 124 balls, shattering the previous record for the highest score by an England men’s player in ODIs.
“The national selector for England’s men, Luke Wright, stated that they have chosen a side they are convince can go to India and win the World Cup.” He played in just one of the New Zealand series’ games before getting cramping, and he then sat out the series’ remaining games.
“England Men’s Cricket Squad Finalized for ICC T20 World Cup 2023, Jason Roy Misses Out”
Luke Wright, a national selector for England’s men, stated, “We have selected a side that we believe can go to India and win the World Cup.”
“Our team of white-ball players is tremendously strong, as seen by their efforts in the series victory over a very capable New Zealand squad.
Because of the team’s strength, we had to make some tough decisions regarding world-class players, leaving Jason Roy out and adding Harry Brook to the squad.
Clubs can still make squad adjustments up until September 28 without requiring ICC approval.
Any alterations to the team made after the cutoff date must have ICC permission.
However, The event will begin on October 5 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with the defending champions England South Africa taking on the World Cup 2019 runners-up New Zealand.
