Extended Bank Holiday Announced by SBP in Observance of Eid ul Adha

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has declared that the central bank will be closed on June 29 and 30 in observance of the festival of Eid ul Adha.

The declaration implies a ripple effect on the operations of all commercial banks in the country, leading to their closure over four days, from Thursday to Sunday.

The federal government had approved a three-day holiday commemorating Eid ul Adha.

The Cabinet Division released a statement saying, “The Prime Minister is pleased to approve the public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha as follows: June 29 to 30, 2023 (Thursday and Friday) for the offices observing five days working in a week; and June 29 to July 1, 2023 (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) for the offices observing 6 days working in a week.”

The Announcement of Eid ul Adha Date

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed that the Zil Hajj moon had been sighted in Pakistan on Monday. This observation determined that Eid ul Adha would be celebrated nationwide on Thursday, June 29.

The committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, announced the decision after receiving testimonies of moon sightings from various cities, including Karachi and Lahore.
