Farrukh Habib, a former federal minister, said on Monday that he was leaving the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and joined Jahangir Tareen’s Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), dealing yet another blow to the party.

He served as the minister of state for communication in Imran Khan’s cabinet and was one of the founding members of the PTI’s student organisation, Insaf Student Federation (ISF).
The former PTI leader made the announcement while participating in a press conference at the Jahangir Tareen-led Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party’s (IPP) Lahore headquarters.
Farrukh Habib revealed during a press conference that he cut off communication with his family for almost three weeks. Since the sad incident on May 9, “we have all been away from our homes,” he stated.
The former federal minister claimed that he intended the May 9 riots to transform Pakistan into the nation of Quaid-e-Azam. “I realised that we chose the route of violence in our struggle. We were unable to create the Quaid-e-Azam-envisioned Pakistan, he said.

After the removal, Habib argued that PIT ought to have chosen a “democratic struggle” and held off on holding elections.
He claimed that Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, chose for “violent resistance.” As youth leaders, “We [ISF] have endured beatings, but we never chose a violent approach,” he continued.
He claimed that “they spread messages urging people to take to the streets and hijacked their minds,” adding that they stirred their passions with the idea that Pakistan’s institutions were against them.

Habib challenged Imran Khan to respond instead of inciting violent politics. He added that Imran had also incited people outside of his Zaman Park home.
Since the May 9 riots, which broke out as a result of the PTI chairman’s arrest in Islamabad, several well-known leaders have held press conferences and declared their intention to leave the PTI.
