The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has suspended the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) accounts due to the non-payment of over Rs 8 billion in taxes.
FBR freezes PIA accounts: Due to the non-payment of approximately Rs 8 billion in unpaid taxes, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has suspended the bank accounts of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has frozen the national carrier’s 26 bank accounts.
According to the FBR, the PIA committed to pay Rs 2 billion in Federal Excise Duty obligations due in August but broke its word.
The PIA spokesperson made it clear that the closure of the bank accounts will not have an impact on the airline’s aircraft operations.
The scheduled flights PK-309 Islamabad-Karachi, PK-330 Karachi-Multan, and PK-739 Multan-Jeddah were all disrupted earlier in July when Pakistan State Oil (PSO) also refused to supply gasoline for three PIA planes.
