Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former prime minister, will return home today following a four-year self-imposed exile.
Nawaz Sharif return to Pakistan: Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the PML-N, has landed at the airport in Dubai before leaving for Pakistan.
According to the PML-N’s timetable, Nawaz would first fly to Islamabad and then proceed to Lahore for the scheduled public gathering today.
The PML-N leader claimed during a press conference at Dubai International Airport that his organisation is capable of rescuing Pakistan from its current predicament.
Before leaving for the airport in Dubai, Nawaz told the reporters, “We are capable of solving the issues facing the nation.
“The situation in Pakistan is very chaotic,” declared Nawaz.
The PML-N leader responded that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is in a “better” position to make decisions regarding elections in response to a question about the general elections.

A chartered flight carrying Nawaz would leave Dubai Airport at 8:45 in the morning and arrive in Islamabad at 12:30.
He will conduct legal consultations while spending an hour at the airport. He will next depart for Lahore, where the party workers will greet him with open arms.
In the evening, Nawaz Sharif is set to speak at a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan.

In order to greet former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has organised flower showers utilising Cessna aircraft in the provincial capital of Lahore.
PML-N states that they have laid out 40,000 seats at Greater Iqbal Park, the location of today’s public gathering.
In order to join the demonstration today, PML-N convoys have departed for Lahore from Sindh, KP, Gilgit Baltistan, and Punjab.

The first time Sharif, 73, was prime minister was in 1990. He lost his position as prime minister in a coup in 1999, and from then until 2007, he lived in exile under his own terms.

The Panama Papers, so-called, reveal that offshore businesses, connected to Sharif’s family, own properties in London in some instances. “Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, his primary adversary, has brought a case against Sharif in Pakistan, despite Sharif’s claims that he did nothing wrong after being elect prime minister for a third time in 2013.”

The Supreme Court removed Sharif from his position as prime minister, branding him dishonest for failing to disclose income from a business held by his son. Sharif leaves his position the same day. To attend to his wife, who was undergoing medical care in London, he will shortly depart for the city.
In a precedent-setting verdict on April 13, 2018, the Supreme Court bars Sharif from engaging in politics or holding any public office for the rest of his life.
July 5, 2018: In absentia, a corruption court condemns Sharif to 10 years in prison. “They found them guilty after failing to demonstrate the amount of money they had available to spend on London homes in the 1990s, both he and Maryam Nawaz, who supporters view as his political heir.”
On July 12, 2018, authorities detained Nawaz Sharif and his daughter at the airport and imprisoned them as they returned to Lahore, their political stronghold and homeland.
July 25, 2018: Imran Khan, Sharif’s major opponent, triumphs in the general election.
Dec. 24, 2018:
“In another graft case, the court finds Sharif guilty and sentences him to seven years in prison, along with a $25 million fine. “He claimed that the accusations, which were linked to the ownership of a steel factory in Saudi Arabia, were politically motivated.”
Nov. 19, 2019: Sharif boards a flight to London after a court grants him permission to go for medical care, with the proviso that he returns once he is healthy. He doesn’t come back.
“A parliamentary vote of no confidence dismisses Khan from the position of prime minister on April 10, 2022, due to disagreements with the military over security selections. Shehbaz Sharif, Sharif’s younger brother, is appointed as the new prime minister.”
Khan is taken into custody on May 9, 2023, prompting violent protests from Khan’s supporters.
On August 9, 2023,
Shehbaz Sharif’s administration will have served its full term and will cede control to a caretaker government that will oversee a general election.
On September 21, 2023, the election commission declares that a general election will be possible by the end of January 2024.
“On October 19, 2023, a judge issued an order stating that Sharif could not be detaine upon his return, and his attorney confirmed Sharif’s intentions to appeal his convictions.”
