WASHINGTON: The White House announced on Monday that classified documents from the time when Joe Biden was serving as Barack Obama’s vice president had been discovered at a Washington think tank that Biden occasionally used as an office space.
According to a statement from Sauber, “The White House is collaborating with the National Archives and the Department of Justice.”
Sauber discovered a small number of marked-classified documents at the Penn Biden Center, a think tank connected to the University of Pennsylvania. He claimed that at the time, they were in a locked closet.
Biden’s attorneys have also worked with the Archives since giving over the materials “to ensure that any Obama-Biden Administration records are appropriately in their custody,” he said. “The documents were not the subject of any prior request or inquiry.”
Attorney General Merrick Garland has tasked the US Attorney in Chicago to review the records and the FBI is also conducting an investigation. There are ten documents in question, according to the report, and a source acquainted with them claimed that none of them contain nuclear material.
Authorities examined former president Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in August after he repeatedly refused to cooperate in returning White House records after losing the 2020 presidential election.
The FBI discovered thousands of federal documents, including more than 100 classified ones and others stamped top secret, in the former president’s Florida club. According to reports, the documents covered nuclear secrets as well as highly sensitive intelligence about China and Iran.
