Ukrainian officials, new airstrikes and shelling by Russia in Ukraine overnight and early on Monday resulted in the deaths of at least four persons.
Russian attacks on Ukraine: In an overnight attack on Kherson’s southern region, assailants killed a 72-year-old man and an elderly woman, while three other people sustained injuries, according to regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin.
An air strike killed a woman in the eastern city of Avdiivka around midday, according to the general prosecutor’s office.
Governor Oleh Kiper of the Odesa region claimed that a drone strike targeted the Izmail area, which houses grain-exporting ports on the Danube River, but clarified that neither the grain infrastructure nor the ports suffered any damage.
As Kiev launched a counteroffensive to try to drive back Moscow’s forces after their invasion nearly 19 months ago, Moscow has continued its campaign of air strikes and shelling across Ukraine.
During the most recent nocturnal Russian attacks, Ukraine’s air force shot down 18 out of 24 Russian drones and destroyed 17 cruise missiles over the districts of Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Khmelnytskyi.
Moscow claims that Ukraine has been attacking Russian targets more frequently. In the most recent such attack, Russian forces on Sunday destroyed three Ukrainian drones: two over the southwest Crimea and one over the Belgorod region, according to the Russian defence ministry.
The reports could not be immediately confirmed by Reuters. Russia has stated that it does not intentionally target civilians and has not commented on the most recent assault.
