Today’s meetings between political parties and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the nation’s impending general elections will continue.
MQM JI meet ECP members today: The ECP called the country’s major political parties to a consultation on general elections on Wednesday in order to establish an election schedule.
The electoral commission will hold a meeting with a team from Jamaat Islami at 12:00 p.m. today to discuss the election schedule, while the Chief Electoral Commissioner and members of the ECP will meet with a delegation from the MQM-P at 11:00 a.m.
On August 29, the election commission will meet with the PPP.
During consultations on the election roadmap, the discussions will cover the delineation of constituencies, the updating of electoral records, the polling schedule, and the conduct of general elections.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) delegations have already met with ECP representatives.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had previously warned the federal and provincial caretaker governments not to participate in any political activities that could endanger the smooth conduct of elections.
The electoral watchdog urged caretaker administrations in letters to desist from any acts intended to influence the polls or from engaging in any activity that would in any way affect or jeopardise the integrity of free and fair elections.
The ECP advised the caretaker formations to limit their activities to those permitted by the Elections Act of 2017.
