Australia and India received significant fines from the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday for their poor over rates during the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.
ICC penalizes India and Australia: On day five of the WTC Final in south London, an energized Australia defeated India by 209 runs.
Shortly after the conclusion of play on the last day of Sunday, officials announced that Australia and India would lose 80% of their match money as a penalty for India’s slow over rate.
After considering time allowances, officials determined that Australia fell short by four overs of the target, while India fell short by five overs. According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players face a 20% match fee penalty for each over their team fails to bowl within the permitted time.
Shubman Gill of India will also be subject to additional punishment for appearing to condemn the choice to remove him from the game on the fourth day of the Test, in violation of article 2.7, which deals with inappropriate comments made in public regarding an incident that occurred during an international match.
The disciplinary committee imposed an additional fine of 15% of the young starting quarterback’s match cost, resulting in his total fines amounting to 115% of his match price. As a result, part of his punishment will be to pay back the money.

On the fifth day, seven wickets fell before lunch, ending India’s chances of a miraculous triumph on a sunny and muggy Sunday morning in south London.
At the end of the session, the game required an additional 15 minutes to capture the final wicket. Nathan Lyon accomplished the feat by removing Mohammed Siraj, leading to Australia claiming the World Test Championship trophy.
