Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar, both members of the PTI, had their imprisonment under the MPO suspended by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which ordered their release on Wednesday.
IHC orders release Shehryar Afridi: PTI leaders Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar’s arrest was challenged before Justice Babar Sattar of the IHC.
The court made the decision to charge DC Islamabad with contempt of court.
Due to the exercise of excessive power when issuing the MPO order, DC Islamabad has been charged with contempt of court.
The DC’s response to the Shehryar Afridi case’s show-cause notice was deemed unacceptable by IHC.
When DC Islamabad questioned what was contained in the MPO ruling, Judge Sattar slammed him.
Additionally, “You wrote the same reasons in the MPO dated 16th May which are in the order of 8th August.”
“The court ruled that your MPO order was invalid,” DC and Justice Babar Sattar’s conversation
When the court called SSP Operations to the witness stand, his attorney Tahir Kazim said there were different grounds for overturning the original MPO judgement.
“You people have created a drama,” remarked Justice Babar Sattar. “The court cancels the MPO order, and then a new order is issued.”
Later, the court asked PTI leader Shehryar Afridi if he had a residence in Islamabad.
Shehryar Afridi answered, “Yes, that’s where my residence is.
The court permitted Afridi to travel to his apartment in Islamabad while suspending the MPO order.
Afridi was instructed by IHC to remain in the capital city. He was also advised to refrain from commenting in the media or on social media until the matter was resolved.
