ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court IHC RAISES OBJECTION to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-(PTI) Insaf’s contempt petition against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and ECP members.

According to the specifics of the case, PTI has accused the chief election commissioner and four ECP members of contempt. The PTI accuses them of failing to hold local government (LG) elections in Islamabad.

“The IHC Registrar’s office asked how a petition for contempt against the chief election commissioner could be filed.”

The chief election commissioner has been named as a respondent by the PTI in the contempt complaint. Four ECP members have also been named as respondents by the PTI. The secretary of the interior and cabinet division has also been named as a respondent by the PTI.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the federal government had earlier filed intra-court challenges against a single-bench decision on the LG elections in Islamabad. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday accepted those appeals.

Ali Nawaz Awan of PTI and Mian Aslam of JI received notices from the court for January 9.

“Attorney Mian Abdur Rauf represented the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in court. Deputy attorney general Arshad Mehmood and additional attorney general Munawar Iqbal Duggal represented the federation.”

It is important to note that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has mandated that the federal capital hold local government elections on December 31.
