A special court extended the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman’s judicial remand in the cypher case till September 13.
Imran Khan’s remand in cipher case extended: The ruling in the matter of the lost cypher, a top-secret government document, was made by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain, who heard the case in the Attock District Jail under the Official Secrets Act 2023.
Following approval by the Law Ministry and amid security worries from the Interior Ministry, the case was heard at the Attock Jail.
Imran Khan, a former prime minister, has been detained in Attock Prison since his Toshakhana case conviction on August 5.
Authorities at Attock Jail were instructed to retain the PTI leader in judicial custody in the cypher case by the special court in Islamabad.
Following the IHC’s suspension of Imran Khan’s three-year sentence in the Toshakhana case, the order was issued shortly after.
Case cypher
The Official Secrets Act’s first information report (FIR) was filed on August 15. In response to the Home Secretary’s complaint, it was recorded.
The names of former principal secretary Azam Khan and former planning minister Asad Umar were also listed in the report, along with former prime minister Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Action would reportedly be taken against Azam Khan and Asad Umar as well after the authorities determined that they were also involved in utilising the secret documents improperly.
According to the FIR, the former foreign minister and prime minister fabricated information on the diplomatic cypher. It continued, “A conspiracy was started to use the cipher’s information for evil ends. It went on to say that the state’s interests were harmed by the former premier and senior diplomat.
According to the report, Azam Khan, the previous prime minister’s principal secretary, was directed to “manipulate the contents of cypher” by the former prime minister. “The former premier kept the copy of the diplomatic cypher that was sent to the PM office on purpose,” the statement continued.
