On Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day, Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, proposed a 120-day reduction in prisoner sentences.
Sindh CM announces remission for prisoners: The provincial government announced a special remission under Rule 788 of the Sindh Prisons and Corrections Service Rules, 2019. This announcement came through a notification based on the recommendations of the Inspector General of Prisons, Sindh.
Convicted inmates housed in Sindh’s different jails and CF are eligible for sentence reductions.
This does not apply to convicts who received extraordinary release from their sentences on eve of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha this year. The exception concerns those inmates who were granted special release during the occasions of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha this year.
Additionally, remission will not be granted to inmates serving sentences for crimes like as murder, espionage, subversion, anti-state activities, terrorist acts, rape, kidnapping/abduction, robbery, dacoity, or crimes covered by the 1946 Foreigners Act.
