The telecom division of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries, Reliance Jio Infocomm, said on Friday that it has begun offering Netflix subscriptions on prepaid plans.
Jio launches Netflix subscription: According to Jio, approximately 400 million prepaid customers will be able to choose between two packages that include Netflix subscriptions: one costs 1,099 rupees ($13.23) and gives access to the service on mobile platforms; the other costs 1,499 rupees and gives access to a basic package for big-screen viewing.
According to Jio, the packages would be valid for a maximum of 84 days.
Jio’s competitors Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea offer Disney+ Hotstar subscriptions through prepaid bundle deals.
According to Tony Zameczkowski, vice president of APAC partnerships for Netflix, “Partnership with Jio will give more customers access to this exciting line-up of Indian content as well as some incredible stories from around the world.”
Additionally, In July, Jio revealed plans to launch a 4G feature phone, strategically targeting untapped non-smartphone users. This initiative showcases Jio’s dedication to expanding its consumer base and accommodating diverse needs in the tech market.
However, The move underscores Jio’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and making advanced connectivity accessible to a broader demographic.
