In just five days, Instagram’s text-based app Threads reached the milestone of 100 million sign-ups. According to a tracker, the Twitter competitor went live on June 6 (or June 5 in the Americas).
Threads app reaches 100 million users: On the first day, Mark Zuckerberg observed that the app garnered 2 million new signups in just two hours, 5 million in just four hours, and 10 million new users in just seven hours. The CEO of Meta reported the following morning that over 30 million individuals had signed up to test the new software.
As of this writing, OpenAI’s ChatGPT bot held the title of one of the consumer goods with the quickest rate of growth after accumulating 10 million daily users in 40 days and 100 million monthly users in over two months. Even though Threads has only been up for a month, it has already surpassed the 100 million mark for monthly active users. The true issue, though, will be to keep consumers on the site.
Many people are utilizing the new text-focused social platform from Meta, but they are encountering some lacking functions. One notable limitation is that the app does not support ActivityPub, the protocol used for posts on decentralized networks. Although Meta claimed to be working on it, the app won’t truly be a part of the Fediverse until the integration launches.
In addition, the app lacks capability for post search, direct messages, hashtags, and a “Following” feed. It also offers a read-only online interface. Instagram prohibits nudity on its platform due to its policies, however Bluesky, another Twitter alternative, does.
But achieving 100 million users in such a short period of time is no small accomplishment. Therefore, it appears that Threads will remain.
