Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi declared that Iran supports the Palestinians’ right to self-defense and issued a warning that Israel, which had been attacked by Hamas a day earlier, must be held accountable for endangering the region.
Iran backs Palestinian self-defence: Palestinian militants from the Hamas Islamist organization, backed by Iran and governing the Gaza Strip, infiltrated Israel early on Saturday under the cover of a large rocket bombardment.

According to Raisi, as reported on state media, “Iran supports the legitimate defence of the Palestinian nation.”

He “discussed the developments in Palestine” in separate phone talks with Islamic Jihad secretary general Ziyad al-Nakhalah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, according to state news agency IRNA.
In June, the Islamic Republic convened meetings with the heads of Islamic Jihad and Hamas.
According to the president, at the time, Raisi claimed that Israel was attempting to normalise relations with additional Arab and Muslim nations in order to “discourage young Palestinians from (seeking to) liberate the occupied territories.”
On Saturday, large crowds of people flying the Palestinian flag gathered in Tehran’s Palestine Square and other major Iranian towns.
They also possessed photographs of the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, who was overseeing the Revolutionary Guards’ overseas activities for more than ten years before a US drone attack killed him in Baghdad in 2020.

The US and Israel have charged Iran with employing drones and missiles to strike US personnel and ships with ties to Israel in the Gulf.
